36th Year of Rubonia's One of a Kind
Mardi Gras Festival
Saturday, March 7, 2015
The Rubonia/Terra Ceia Mardi Gras, Inc. Parade began in 1980, when a small band of friends, the “Crew of the Mystic Rainbow,” assembled a few makeshift floats and marched their small parade through the sleepy little town of Rubonia in honor of Lu Ann Topp’s birthday.
After eighteen years of ever-larger crowds, loads of mirth and no major problems Lu Ann was confronted by County Officials demanding permits, liability insurance, security, etc., etc.
Because neither she nor any of the “organizers” of the parade are wealthy, Lu Ann decided she had to bow aside.
Urged by the residents, the Rubonia Community Center agreed to host the event and has kept the tradition going since 1998 within the United community Centers organization.
The event grew larger and became more costly, and now the UCC has decided it won’t continue to sponsor the event.
Charles Miller and the Rubonia Community have stepped forward to create the “New Rubonia/Terra Ceia Mardi Gras, Inc.” to raise money to continue this event.
With your help, we will raise the funds for permits, insurance, organize vendors, music and have the parade Sunday March 7, 2015 7:00am-6:00pm. We will hold and controls all profit from the event at the Wells Fargo Bank, and our books will be open to all. With your generous donations, we pledge that any profits from the event will be used for the betterment of our communities youth. $2.00 Entry Fee to continue the Mardi Gras for years to come.
